For years now, the need to increase the degree of digitalization and the incorporation of robotics and artificial intelligence into economic activity, particularly in developed economies, has been assumed, not without certain fears. Undoubtedly, the COVID-19 pandemic has prioritized and accelerated this process. Therefore, the digitalization and automation of the companies that make up the Spanish productive fabric is presented not only as an opportunity, but also as a necessity for their growth and development. To this end, it is essential to analyze the potential degree of digitalization and automation of Spanish economic activity and the changes that need to be incorporated into it, as well as to study the factors that can facilitate it. In all of this, the Public Sector must play an important twofold role. On the one hand, through the design of actions and policies of various kinds that encourage companies to work on their digitalization and automation. There are already experiences that can be analyzed. On the other hand, the Public Sector itself must make an effort to digitalize. While it is true that much progress has already been made in this field, there is still much to be done. Learning from the experience of what has happened in other countries in this area is also of interest.
There is room for, among others, studies that analyze:
